humanKIND

Leadership, made human again.

Humans were created to flourish. Leadership shouldn't cost you that.

humanKIND is a human-centred leadership practice, for the leader who's never been more successful and never felt less like themselves. The work is remembering who you are, and leading from there. This is where it begins.

The reframe

You are not the role.

The thing you're great at, the thing that built your career, started as a real answer to what the room, the team, the moment in front of you needed. It worked, so you did more of it, until the version of you that kept working and the actual you had quietly drifted apart.

It isn't a flaw in you. It's the cost of a kind of leadership a whole generation was trained into. Taught to optimize, to scale, to manage outcomes. Never taught how to lead from a place that holds when the pressure doesn't let up. Skilled, accomplished, depleted, carrying a quiet question: is this what I came to do?

The doing was never the problem. Doing that's cut off from who you are is. The work is remembering who you actually are, and leading from there. When what you do flows from who you are, leadership stops costing you yourself.

What we mean by human-centred leadership

Leading from who you already are.

Definition — humanKIND

Human-centred leadership is a practice of leading in which the full humanity of the leader, their values, interior life, capacity for care, and honest self-awareness, is the foundation of how they think, decide, and act. It isn't the opposite of high performance. It's the condition that makes high performance sustainable, relational, and worthy of the life it costs.

The approach

Leadership isn't either/or. It never was.

Most leadership models push toward extremes. Relentless execution or endless reflection. Head or heart. Strength or care. Ambition or integrity. humanKIND works in the space those false choices leave empty.

The work moves across three dimensions, Being, Knowing, and Doing. Not a sequence to complete or a framework to master. An orientation. Each one draws on the others, and all three are drawn toward the same place: Source, the most honest and grounded expression of who you are as a leader. The work is learning to lead from there, from who you really are.

Being

Who you are beneath the performance

Your ground

Seeing the patterns you built to succeed, and which ones are now costing you clarity, energy, or integrity.

Knowing

What actually fulfills you, and why

Your compass

Fulfillment isn't a reward. It's a lens for deciding what matters and what kind of leadership is sustainable for you.

Doing

Action that flows from who you are

Your movement

Where clarity becomes cleaner decisions, clearer boundaries, and action that comes from who you are, not who you've been performing.

Who this is for

This work is for leaders who want more than survival.

humanKIND works with leaders, founders, executives, and organizations ready to lead differently. Not because something's wrong with them, but because they can feel that something more honest is available, and they're willing to do the work to reach it.

01

Successful by most measures, but sensing a growing gap between how they lead and who they actually are.

02

Navigating growth, transition, or complexity, and wanting to meet it with integrity intact.

03

Carrying a quiet conviction that they have something to bring into the world, even if they can't yet fully name it.

04

Watching AI reshape their industry and asking what's left that's theirs to bring.

05

Ready to stop performing their leadership and start living it.

If something here resonates, trust that. You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to be honest about where you are.

Ways to work together

Two paths. The same foundation.

humanKIND offers two primary forms of engagement, both grounded in the same conviction: that leadership is more honest, more durable, and more alive when the person at the centre of it is whole.

Not sure which is right?

A conversation is always the right place to start.

Verge · A humanKIND Partnership

A leadership program for men who are done performing.

When men stop performing for each other, something shifts. In how they lead. In how they are at home. In how they live. Verge is built for men ready to find out.

The person behind the practice

James Powell — Founder, humanKIND

In his own words

I didn't come to this work through a book. I came to it through a life. I know what it costs to lead as someone you're not, and I know what opens up when that changes. Not because I read about it. Because I lived it. And because I've spent sixteen years watching other leaders find the same thing.

If something here resonated, that matters. You don't need everything figured out. You don't need to be in crisis. You just need to be curious about what leadership looks like when it actually reflects who you are.
